I spent Thanksgiving weekend in Philadelphia. First time there, so naturally I had to do the whole tourist thing. Top of the list: eating a cheesesteak. I asked a friend from Philly where to go and she said Geno's or Pat's at the Italian Market. Apparently it's tradition to try both and pick a favorite.

Getting the food

I wasn't super hungry so I figured I'd just hit Geno's and save Pat's for another day.

Geno's doesn't have indoor seating - just tables outside. It was damn near freezing when I went, but the cold meant no line at least. Got my food quick, grabbed one of the orange tables, and unwrapped my sandwich.

Opinion

Since this was my first cheesesteak, I can't really compare it to anything. I asked for the most original version - just meat, cheese, and onions. Honestly, it was pretty good. The meat was tender and fresh.

The onions were a bit too strong though, kind of overpowered everything else. And by the end, the bread got soggy, which wasn't great.

Overall though? Fun experience trying this classic Philly spot. I bet it gets packed when it's warmer and there are more tourists around.

The Italian Market area is beautiful, definitely worth checking out. And if you're already there and hungry, Geno's makes for a solid quick bite.
